1. The nature and number of broken wires

The overall design of the lifting machinery does not allow the elevator wire rope to have an unlimited life.

For 6-strand and 8-strand elevator wire ropes, broken wires mainly occur on the outer surface. Elevator wire ropes with multiple strands (typical multi-strand structure) are different. Most of the broken wires of this type of elevator wire rope occur inside, so it is an "invisible" break.

2. Wire breakage at the end of the rope

When broken wires appear at the end of the rope or near the end of the rope, even if the number is small, it indicates that the part is under great force, which may be caused by incorrect installation of the rope end. The cause of the damage should be found out. If the rope length allows, cut off the broken wires and reinstall them reasonably.

3. Local aggregation of broken wires

If the broken wires are close together to form a local aggregation, the elevator wire rope should be scrapped. If such broken wires are gathered in a rope length less than 6d or in any rope strand, the elevator wire rope should be discarded even if the number of broken wires is less than the listed value.

4. Increased wire breakage rate In some applications, fatigue is the main cause of elevator wire rope damage. Wire breakage begins to occur after a period of use, but the number of broken wires gradually increases and the time interval becomes shorter and shorter. In this case, in order to judge the increase rate of wire breakage, the increase in wire breakage should be carefully checked and recorded. This "rule" can be used to determine the future scrap date of the elevator wire rope.

5. Strand breakage

If the entire strand is broken, the elevator wire rope should be discarded.
